Job Description Summary
The Department of Linguistics at the University of Pennsylvania has a teaching and research mission that is centered on several areas of language research. The Department seeks an Academic Coordinator, whose duties will involve interactions with faculty, graduate students in the PhD program, and university contacts outside of the department (e.g. in the business office). A primary responsibility will be with the PhD program, where the Coordinator will assist existing graduate students by helping them with the university's administrative structures, and by guiding them to appropriate forms of support and helping them with the preparation of important documents. The Coordinator will also manage the undergraduate major, and will support department functions more generally in an administrative capacity, and coordinate events and other departmental functions.

Job Description

The position combines the responsibilities of an Academic Coordinator for the graduate (PhD) and undergraduate Linguistics programs, with other functions supporting the Linguistics Department faculty and Department Chair. In this capacity, they will support the Graduate Chair and the Chair in all matters related to the graduate program. The Academic Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for graduate students, and provide support for organizing functions related to the PhD program, including but not limited to departmental colloquia, as well as the annual Penn Linguistics Conference. The Academic Coordinator will also manage the undergraduate majors in Linguistics. In addition, they will work on maintaining the departments web presence, and work with faculty to create an online resource that brings together the research output of the department. Other responsibilities of a more general nature will be determined in a way that intersects with the responsibilities of the department's Program Coordinator, in a way that is optimal for the teaching and research missions of the department.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma and 5-7 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required. Bachelor's degree preferred. Ideally candidates would have in addition experience in working in higher education, as well as experience using Microsoft Office. Experience with other types of software (e.g. database-related) or ability to acquire expertise with this would also be preferred.

Targeted Pay Range: $37,219/20.45 per hour - $55,000/$30.22 per hour

This is an hourly paid position with a salary based on 35 hours per week.
